Our Home Rewiring Services:

Why Choose Our Home Rewiring Services

Kochs Electric delivers professional home rewiring services backed by qualified electricians who carry full licensing and certification. Every sparky on our team is trained to current standards and works to building regulations on every job. As a trusted local electrician serving residential and commercial customers across Indiana, our business is built on hands-on experience and a commitment to electrical services that people can rely on.

We don’t cut corners on materials. We use rated, insulated twin and earth cable, armoured SWA cable where required, and correctly sized MCBs and RCBOs matched to each circuit’s load calculation. Every connection is properly terminated, every junction box is accessible, and every earth conductor is bonded and tested for continuity before we energize anything.

Our rewiring process is clean and organized. We fish cables through walls, route conduit where surface mounting is needed, and label every circuit at the distribution board so you know exactly what controls what. We leave your home tidy and your electrical system fully documented.

Kochs Electric provides a written quote before any work starts. No surprise charges. No vague estimates. You get a clear breakdown of what we’ll install, what we’ll replace, and what the finished system will look like. Our pricing is affordable and transparent – we schedule every project to suit your routine and keep the work complete on time.

We back every home rewiring job with a workmanship guarantee and full certification. Your consumer unit, circuits, earthing, and bonding are all tested, signed off, and ready for inspection. Customers who work with us highly recommend our services – read our reviews to see how we support homeowners through every stage of the rewiring process.

Signs You Need Home Rewiring Services

1. Tripping breakers and blown fuses: If your MCBs trip repeatedly or your old fuse board keeps blowing fuses, your circuits are overloaded or your wiring is faulty. A rewire replaces undersized cables and installs correctly rated breakers so each circuit handles its designed load without tripping. Your electrical panel needs to handle your home’s power demands reliably – when it can’t, a full rewire is a more effective long-term solution than repeated repairs.

2. Exposed or damaged wiring: Exposed live wire, cracked insulation, or sheathing that crumbles when touched are serious hazards. Old rubber-insulated or lead-sheathed cable degrades over decades. A full rewire strips out every defective conductor and replaces it with modern insulated twin and earth cable throughout. Damaged wires and deteriorated current wiring carry a real fire risk that needs to be addressed before it causes serious harm to your property.

3. No RCD protection on your consumer unit: Older fuse boards don’t include RCD or RCBO protection. Without it, a fault on a live wire won’t disconnect fast enough to prevent injury. Rewiring your home includes fitting a new distribution board with full RCD protection on every circuit. Our electricians inspect your existing panels and determine the correct configuration for your home’s load requirements.

4. Flickering lights and dead outlets: Flickering luminaires and dead sockets often point to loose terminations, a broken neutral conductor, or a failing splice inside a junction box. These faults are hard to trace without rewiring the affected circuits and re-terminating every connection properly.

5. Pre-1970s wiring still in place: Homes wired before the 1970s often contain single-insulated conductors, no earth conductor on lighting circuits, and undersized cables that don’t meet current load requirements. A full domestic rewire brings the entire installation up to current building regulations and makes the property safe, insurable, and sellable. Homes built in earlier eras were never designed to support modern power needs. Today’s electricity demands are significantly higher, and older wiring cannot safely handle what people rely on every day.

Our Home Rewiring Process

Step 1 — Survey and load calculation We inspect your existing consumer unit, circuits, and wiring. We measure voltage, check earthing continuity, and calculate the load on each circuit to design a rewire that meets your home’s actual demand.

Step 2 — De-energize and isolate We isolate the installation at the meter and confirm every circuit is de-energized before we strip out any cable. Safety first, every time.

Step 3 — Strip out old wiring We remove defective cable, old back boxes, and the existing fuse board. We clear conduit, trunking, and any surface-mounted wiring that doesn’t meet current standards.

Step 4 — Install new circuits We fish new twin and earth cable through walls and ceilings, run conduit where required, and route each circuit back to the new distribution board. We fit new back boxes, sockets, switches, and light fittings throughout.

Step 5 — Fit the new consumer unit We mount and wire the new RCD or RCBO protected consumer unit, terminate every phase conductor, neutral conductor, and earth conductor correctly, and label each circuit clearly.

Step 6 — Test and certify We test every circuit for continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, and earth fault loop impedance using a calibrated multimeter and clamp meter. We issue a full Electrical Installation Certificate once the rewire is complete, confirming that every circuit is effective, safe, and ready for use.

FAQs About Home Rewiring Services

What is a home rewiring service?

A home rewiring service replaces all the electrical wiring in your property. That includes every circuit, cable, socket, switch, light fitting, and the consumer unit itself. The old wiring is stripped out and new rated, insulated cable is installed throughout. This project covers residential properties of all sizes. We also complete commercial rewiring work for business clients with similar requirements.

When does a house need rewiring?

Most homes need rewiring after 25 to 40 years. If your property still has rubber-insulated wiring, a fuse board without RCD protection, or no earth conductor on the lighting circuit, it needs a rewire now. If you’re unsure whether your current wiring is safe, our electricians can answer that question with a proper inspection. Homes built before the 1970s almost always require attention.

Why does rewiring require a permit?

Home rewiring is notifiable work under Part P of the building regulations. A licensed electrician must either notify the local authority or self-certify the work through a registered scheme. Kochs Electric handles all certification and notification as part of every rewire.

How long does a full rewire take?

A standard three-bedroom home takes three to five days. Larger properties or homes with complex circuits take longer. We give you a clear timeline before work starts and schedule work around your routine to make the process as easy as possible.

Can I stay in my home during a rewire?

Yes, in most cases. We work room by room where possible and restore power each evening. Some stages require a full de-energized installation, and we’ll tell you in advance when that’s needed. We support you throughout the process and have an emergency service available if urgent issues arise during the rewire.

Does rewiring fix tripping breakers?

Yes. Tripping MCBs and RCDs are often caused by overloaded circuits, faulty wiring, or defective terminations. A full rewire replaces every conductor and fits correctly rated breakers matched to each circuit’s load.

How much does home rewiring cost?

Cost depends on the size of your home, the number of circuits, and the condition of existing wiring. Contact Kochs Electric for a detailed quote based on a proper survey and load calculation.
